A Quick Tour of
Delta Drawing(R) Today
To experience Delta Drawing Today's extensive capabilities, you have the
opportunity to view some of our sample pictures and to create your own
masterpieces. After your Quick Tour, we think that you will agree that Delta
Drawing Today is a great way for children to enjoy Playing, Thinking, &
Learning!
To Load The Demo:
1. Start your machine. You will see the DOS Prompt-for example: A>, or C:>
2. Put the Delta Drawing Demonstration Disk into drive A and close the door.
3. Type A: and press ENTER. (If you used a different drive, type the name of
that drive.)
4. Type DD and press ENTER. Please wait until you see the Delta pointer
sitting in the center of the screen.
To View Sample Drawings:
1. Press CTRL-S. You will see a menu.
2. Press L to Load. You will see the list of sample files.
3. Use the arrow keys to highlight a file name and then press ENTER. Enjoy!
4. If you have a fast computer, from the Graphics screen press CTRL-V
(Velocity) to slow the drawing action. Press CTRL-V again to return to
full speed.
5. To see a new picture, repeat steps 1-3: CTRL-S, L, highlight a file
name, then ENTER.
Note: CTRL-S means to press and hold down the key named Control and
then, with the CTRL key held down, press the S once. Then,
release both keys.
We suggest that you look at the nine numbered demos first . They have been
especially designed to show you some of the exciting features of Delta
Drawing. Take a moment to view each of them, then view the other sample
pictures to see the wide range of Delta Drawing's capabilities. Try pressing
the arrow keys to move the picture around the screen!
FALL, BLACKCAT, and SNOSTORM were created by fourth graders in
Oklahoma. TRUCK was drawn by a seven year old in Massachusetts. FIREWORK
illustrates simple animation. GEOMETRY is an example of basic shapes.
GRAF_BAR shows the visual representation of data. JURASSIC reveals the power
of self-referential functions.
To Create Your Own Drawings:
Before you begin creating your own drawings or trying one of the projects
below, start each project with a fresh copy of the program. To get a fresh
copy, press: CTRL-S, Q, Y, DD, ENTER. (The full version of Delta Drawing Today
uses a simple command to do this.)
Now load a fresh copy of Delta Drawing and get ready to draw! Experiment
by pressing the D key. What happens? Now try the keys: R, L, M, C, and E.
Delta Drawing records your keystrokes on the Text Screen. To see your
commands, press T (for Text). To return to the Graphics screen, press G. When
you are finished experimenting, hold down the E key to erase the screen.
Playing, Thinking, and Learning!
Continue making your own drawings or try an interesting project below!
Project 1: Square (Please load a fresh copy!)
As you saw from the sample files, you can use the Delta pointer to make
all kinds of designs and pictures. To see how easy and fun Delta Drawing is,
let's begin by drawing a square. The command 5D.. means press the D key 5
times. 3R.. means press the R key 3 times. Try it! Press
5D.. 3R.. 5D.. 3R.. 5D..
3R.. 7D..
Oops! That last line is too long. Press E twice to make it shorter.
Note: You will be using this drawing in the next project. Please
do NOT erase it or load a fresh copy!
Project 2: Square Flower
Now you will use the drawing from project 1. If you haven't done it yet,
please draw the square in project 1. With the drawing on the screen, press S.
Your picture vanishes from the screen -- it is now SAVED in the computer's
memory. See the F1 in the bottom left corner of the screen? Press F1.
Presto! -- your drawing is called back to the screen. Press T to see the keys
you pressed to create your picture. Now press G to return to the graphics
screen.
Let's turn your picture into something different! With your picture on
the screen, press C to change color and then R to change the Delta's
direction. Now press S to save this as F2. To complete the project, press
F2. Now what happens if you press F2 again? How many times do you press F2
before the Delta starts drawing over itself?
Project 3: Letters (Please load a fresh copy!)
For a surprise, hold down the Alt key and press another key. What
happens? Did you see the alphabet at the bottom of the screen? It tells you
that you are in the Lettering & Numbering mode.
Let's make a colorful square with the letters in your name. While
holding down the Alt key, type in your name. Release the Alt key and press the
R key 3 times. Now press C. Then press S. You should see F1 in the lower left
corner of the screen. Press F1 4 times. What is on the screen now? To rotate
it as in the sample above, press R and then S to create F2. Now press F2 a few
times. What is happening? This is concrete poetry. Would you like to use
concrete poetry in your language arts program?
Project 4: Manipulatives (Please load a fresh copy!)
If you have some Pattern Blocks, hold one up to the screen and trace it
with Delta Drawing. Save the tracing as a function by pressing S. Repeat with
a few other shapes. On the table, arrange the blocks into a design. Can you
create the same design on the screen?
To See the Help Screen:
Press SHIFT-H from the graphics screen to get HELP.
Look at the HELP screens to gain a fast overview of the program's
functionality. Use the Left & Right arrow keys to move from page to page.
When you wish to return to the graphics screen, press the ESC key. (Because
this is only a demonstration disk, not all commands are active. Inactive
commands include printing, saving drawings to disk, and screen clearing.)
We want to insure your success with Delta Drawing Today! As you will see
below, the HELP screen is only one component of the comprehensive Support
